Cost is a common complaint with smart home products, especially with cameras and other security systems that have a subscription requirement for many features. There are still some affordable options for smart cameras, though, like the Tapo brand from TP-Link. Meet the Tapo C120: a smart camera that doesn't break the bank.

TP-Link's smart home brand, Tapo, has just unveiled the Tapo C120 Indoor/Outdoor Home Security Camera. Among other features, the Tapo C120 offers high-definition 2K QHD video clarity, surpassing the usual Full HD 1080p resolution for detailed image and video viewing. This means that, despite its unassuming price point, the camera should provide a sharp image quality. The camera also has a full-color night vision, facilitated by a starlight sensor and dual spotlights.

Tapo says that the camera is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, featuring robust IP66 weatherproofing for when you do want to put it outside, letting you confidently install it in your backyard or at the front door. It has 24/7 monitoring capabilities and two-way audio, enhancing security and enabling communication with delivery drivers and guests. The Tapo C120 also has a magnetic base design, a long 9.8 ft power cord, and a flexible bracket, allowing easy installation with complete control over viewing angles.

This budget-friendly security camera incorporates an alarm system, and you can even record custom audio and adjust spotlight brightness to deter intruders. The Smart AI detection feature, available in the free Tapo app, accurately identifies people, pets, and vehicles, ensuring relevant alerts and minimizing unnecessary alarms.

The cameras can store images and videos locally on a microSD card of up to 512 GB (sold separately. There's also an optional subscription service, providing a 30-day video history and additional benefits like activity notifications with snapshots. That costs $3.49/mo in the US for one camera, $6.99/mo for two cameras, $10.49/mo for three cameras, or $11.9/mo for up to ten cameras. There's also discounted prices for yearly subscriptions—Tapo's support site has a full price sheet.

The best part of the Tapo C120 might be the price. At $39.99, you can buy a couple of them without breaking the bank. They're now available to buy on Amazon.
